Another new year is upon us. It is crazy to think it is the infamous 2020. I remember my mom saying we would have flying cars by now just like the Jetsons. Today, there are no functional flying cars like the Jetsons that I am aware, but there have been other tremendous gadgets that have shown the passing of the times. Though technological advancements are amazing nothing compares to human physiological and psychological advancements. The purpose of technology can help aid in human performance and development. Our brains and bodies are designed for continual growth and development. There is no limitation unless we remove ourselves from environments that allow ourselves to grow. This goes the same for our souls and spirit. Growth is essential to the vitality of our souls. Without it we would slowly deprive ourselves the very purpose of our existence.
As you are reading this you are probably wondering how this can help me for the new year. First thing, we don’t have to rely on the new year to change our behavior. It can be as simple as a choice of who you want to become by choosing to change today. Either way, starting with goals is great, but the main goal should be about growth cause that is our purpose in life and greatest ability. Though, as we keep growing, we can veer away from the foundation of who we are. Goals can become complicated and lead us to discouragement if we don’t meet it on our specific timeline. I believe deep down everyone wants to grow. It is our very nature to desire to grow in some shape or form. This year we should all take a different approach to our goals and growth. Instead of hitting the same barriers repeatedly in your personal growth and making them complicated. Let’s simplify our choice and chose to be the best version of ourselves in 2020. To be the best version of yourself. You must first come to terms about “yourself.” A lot of people struggle with loving themselves. People wonder ‘how can I be the best version of myself if I can’t even look in the mirror and appreciate what I see?’ We live in a world where people tend to compare, and a need prove themselves constantly. This develops into a process of being hard on ourselves which holds us back from being the best we can be daily.
Typically, people keep looking to the world for help and the world for what they should be. This year to be the best version of yourself look to the Lord for help. God will help guide, supply, support, and direct your steps. He is the one who knows us perfectly and how we act. If we chose to know God and what He knows then we are making those steps to be the best version of ourselves in 2020.
Ask yourself what does the best version of me look like? Whatever that may look like it will be specific to you. God created you for a purpose. Our first aim after declaring ourselves to the Lord is to find our real selves through Him. So, what will it take? It takes us to be the best version of ourselves, in other words the ‘Best You-version’ you can be with the Lords help, guidance, and direction.
You will all go through a journey to become the best version of yourself. You will ask yourselves questions along the way to help you reflect and make that choice to choose the best you. Each of you will learn how to love yourself. Second, understand the importance to humble yourself. Third, the freedom of denying yourself. Forth, how to arm and clothe yourself. This is all possible because we know God himself. You will understand who He is and what He is doing in your life. God will fight for you, so just stay calm. Christ himself took the punishment and can show us how to be the best versions of ourselves daily. Finally, God himself is all about your best version. He wants you to be the you He created you to be. This takes time through humility and ultimately fully trusting in His victory for you.
This year make simplify your goal. Aim to be the best version of yourself for 2020 and the remainder of your life. Over the next couple days you will follow the path below to become the best version of yourself. Chose one or multiple and aim to hit it daily:
1. Enemy of Yourself – tirelessly continue to prove, compare, and be hard on ourselves.
2. Know God and Christ Himself- their aim is to restore a relationship with you through their love. A love that looks to the best in you.
3. Love yourself- the way God loves you but to love yourself properly you need to know God himself and Christ himself. Realize what they have done for you and start to believe in yourself because He believes in you. Speak His truth over you.
4. Forgive yourself- No need to be so hard on yourself. We can be own worst critic. Stop comparing and proving yourself to the point of defeat.
5. Humble yourself- under Gods mighty power as Christ humbled himself
6. Deny yourself- Understand the freedom to denying yourself from all sinful pleasures of any kind. Combat this by patterning yourself after Jesus and following His example in living. Conforming yourselves to Him.
7. Clothe yourself-Take time to dress yourself from the Word of God and arm yourself for daily tasks ahead.
8. Examine yourself- continually to make sure what your doing is of pure motives and heart. It is easy to drift away from our intentions and start to look more to ourselves again. Ask God to point out anything wrong.
9. Surround yourself- around like-minded people who will push you to be the best version of yourself.
What does that mean, to be the best version of yourself? It simply means, be the best version you can be today in character, passion, focus, and above self-worth. For example, when you work out your body will transform into its best version. It won’t replicate another person’s body appearance because you are unique. No one can replicate you. Yes, you might have a six pack or muscle definition, but it is still designed to your uniqueness.
I believe we all can be the best version of ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually. We won’t be perfect. We are just meant to be the best version we can be. On this journey you might need to apply all aspects you see above or just a few to be the best version of yourself. I say apply the biggest one that is missing in your life right now. For example, deny yourself and then add the others in time. Eventually, all these behaviors will be integrated in your life because of your fellowship with Jesus.
Ask yourself what does the best version of myself look like? (Whatever the first few things pop up in your head right now? Write them down and act on them). This can be more encouraging words to someone. Exercising from moderate to more vigorous activity. Increase in knowledge, education, or biblical understanding. Regardless we all have a step we can take to be our best version. This can also mean adequate sleep, proper hydration, daily physical activity, and nourished meals.
When you are the best version of yourself you will want to be that person more consistently. Eventually, people will see this and be drawn to you. That is when you explain how you have made you a priority. There will be days when we won’t be at our best and that will happen. God will reveal to us what we need to do and make up the slack we lack. In the end, you are designed and destined to live a great life once you chose to be the best version of yourself. Chose to be that person when life is hard. Chose to be that person when you know your health, or a physical limitation is still there. When you chose the best version of yourself you ultimately chose joy.
Reflection Time:
-What does the best version of myself look like?
-What action can I take to be the best version of myself daily?
-What’s continually holding me back from the best version of myself?
-Will I commit my actions and look to the Lord in 2020?

2020 is finally here and the focus of new year resolutions will begin. This year, simplify your decision and strive to be the best version of yourself. This is not about perfection it is about looking to the best within each and everyone of us. Then find ways to live it out daily. The best way to be the best version of ourselves is to look to the one who sees the best in us, God himself.
