Oppression

The world has been put on Pause

This virus has done way more than just affect people's health. As terrible as it has been to see this virus harm and even kill so many just brings me to tears. I hate seeing people get hurt and seeing this at such a wide spread rate is unbelievable. This virus spread so fast and might have reached people close to your families. My prayer for everyone today is complete healing for our nation, our health, and our souls.

This virus has caused restrictions to everyone from removing social engagements and as well as limiting restaurant access. Even movies, sports, and musical events have been put on complete hold. This has also impacted national parks and beaches to be shut down to avoid large gatherings. Lastly, the economy is being impacted in such a way that over 12 million people and counting have filed for unemployment. Some might say a recession or a depression is on its way. I say there is something else at work that has been around longer than any of those, oppression.

What is Oppression?

Oppression is any prolonged cruel or unjust treatment, mental pressure or distress. It is a force that is put upon us and we all feel enslaved to it. I know right now most of America is getting a feel what the rest of the world experiences day to day. The oppression we are all facing is massive removal of life as we know it from people we love.

Hope

I am not here to be positive and ignore what is happening, but I do want to point to hope. I want to show everyone that God sees the oppression in your lives and will free us from this because he cares so much about you. Like I mentioned before, oppression has been around since the beginning and is nothing new to God. We can go back to the time Israel was enslaved in Egypt. We read:

So the Egyptians made the Israelites their slaves. They appointed brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down with crushing labor. They forced them to build the cities of Pithom and Rameses as supply centers for the king. But the more the Egyptians oppressed them, the more the Israelites multiplied and spread, and the more alarmed the Egyptians became. Exodus 1:11-12

We might think we are left to our own demise, but like I said before God cares about us. God sees oppression in this world to the ones He loves and will set them free.

Then the Lord told him, I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey-the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live. Exodus 3:7-8

The Lord sees us in our oppression and hardship. The question I ask to you, do you see the Lord getting ready to rescue you? Do you believe He will rescue you?

Therefore, say to the people of Israel: 'I am the Lord. I will free you from your oppression and will recuse you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgement. I will claim you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God who has freed you from your oppression in Egypt.  Exodus 6:6-7

Today, we just need to replace Egypt with Coronavirus. It doesn't matter what the oppressor is. The fact is everyone feels enslaved and lost of hope in this time with people losing their lives, but the message of hope is that God SEES You. He wants you to know that He SEES you and is right HERE for you. Look to Him!

Redemption and Restoration

Our step is to Look to God first and see Him as our ultimate savior. We all know the end of the story in Exodus when Moses parts the Red Sea, but yet people still questioned and doubted God for their lives. The truth is God is the only one who can truly save us:

But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, "Don't be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames with not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I gave Egypt as a ransom for your freedom; I gave Ethiopia and Seba in your place. Others were given in exchange for you. I traded their lives for yours because you are precious to me. You are honored, and I love you. Isaiah 43:1-4

We all have this hope when we truly have faith and trust in God. We are in a time when we need to put all we have into Him. Learn to completely trust God with your life, because He will save it and is with you right now.

Look to the One who has been through harsher treatment

He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down from the rebellion of my people. He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man's grave. Isaiah 53:7-8

In this time, look to Jesus who has gone through harsher treatment than we ever will. Read our belief page and see why Jesus cares about you so much that He willingly gave up His life for you and me. Having a personal relationship with Jesus will help you be set free and realize your true purpose in life. Keep your heart pure and be real in your relationship with Christ.

The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Psalms 9:9

Since God sees you He will protect you. God saw the oppression of His people then and He sees the oppression of His people now. Look to the one that sees you. Then you will find safety and be free from capacity.

Take Away:

-God sees you

-God will free you

-See God for who He is

During this pandemic I have felt God speaking to me. Though, God doesn't audibly speak to me, but what I hear is: 'Let my people know that I see them!' God sees you during this time of hardship and difficulty. He wants to speak with you today. Take time to listen to Him, because He sees you and cares about you.
